For people who love where they live.
meet liz + sam.
We Love Land is a landscape architecture studio designing and building landscapes on Florida's Forgotten Coast. Sam's background in industrial design and landscape architecture grounds the studio's focus on detail and craft — how things are made and how they come together. Liz's background in landscape design and construction shapes the studio's approach to planting, project development, and the relationships at the heart of every project. Together, they run a small, hands-on studio in the place they call home.
sam berkheiser
[ co-founder & rla]
Sam is a landscape architect, designer, and builder whose work bridges the gap between vision and construction. With a background in both industrial design and landscape architecture, he brings equal attention to composition, craftsmanship, and constructability to every project.
-
Sam is particularly interested in how landscapes are assembled — from grading and drainage to paving layouts, construction details, and material transitions. He's drawn to the technical problem-solving that lets a design get built successfully without losing its original intent.
As co-founder of We Love Land Studio, Sam leads the firm's landscape architectural work, translating design ideas into buildable realities through construction drawings, technical detailing, material selection, and field implementation. His hands-on approach carries the integrity of the design through construction, with the same care and craftsmanship that shaped the original vision.
liz berkheiser
[ co-founder ]
Liz is co-founder of We Love Land Studio and leads the firm's landscape design, planting design, and client experience. She works closely with homeowners, institutions, and community organizations to understand how a landscape will be used — translating ideas into thoughtful, functional outdoor spaces.
-
Liz approaches landscape design by considering the site as a whole. From spatial planning and circulation to hardscape, planting, and material selection, she considers how each element works together to shape the way a landscape looks, functions, and feels to experience.
At We Love Land Studio, Liz works across the full design process — from early concepts and site planning through detailed plans, planting design, material selection, and field implementation. Her background in horticulture and construction brings both a creative and practical perspective to her work, helping create landscapes that feel thoughtful, cohesive, and connected to the people and places they belong to.

Growing up in the mountains of eastern Kentucky, Charlie developed an early appreciation for the outdoors and a connection to the natural world. For the past six years, he has worked hands-on with annuals and perennials, building his knowledge of plants and the landscapes and ecosystems around us.
Charlie joined our team last year as our first full-time employee and quickly became an important part of We Love Land. Working alongside us on landscape installation and ongoing maintenance projects, he brings a wide range of practical skills, learns new tasks quickly, and has a particular ability to take new ideas and put them into action in the field.
His curiosity, strong work ethic, and desire to keep learning make him a natural fit for our team. Charlie is especially interested in understanding our local ecosystem and doing work that helps care for the environment we call home.

Originally from coastal New England, Amy Gallant grew up gardening and growing organic food in the salty coastal air, developing an early connection to plants and the natural world. She holds a B.A. in Psychology from Marlboro College in Vermont and brings years of hands-on horticultural experience and knowledge to her work in the landscape.
During her 13 years in Apalachicola, Amy has worked as a residential and commercial gardener, floral potter, and nursery professional. Her broad experience has given her a strong foundation in plant cultivation and care, as well as an extensive knowledge of plants and their use in the landscape.
Amy joined the We Love Land team in the summer of 2026. She has a natural ability to create beautiful, thoughtful planting combinations, bringing together her horticultural knowledge and strong design sense in a way that feels both artful and appropriate to our local landscape. Her experience, creativity, and understanding of plants make her a wonderful addition to our team, and we are so happy to have her on board.
our guiding values.
01/ Living with the Land
We believe an outdoor space should work with what's already here, not pave over it — native and well-adapted plants, materials that belong to the coast, and design that honors the land and the ecosystem that shaped it.
02/ Design-first approach
We’re a design-first studio. We start with thoughtful planning & considered design, so the finished landscape feels intentional and what gets built is something considered & made to last.
03/ trust over transactions
Word-of-mouth referrals and clients-turned-friends are what we’re all about. We build from a shared vision & grow alongside you for years after the project is complete.
“My heartfelt thanks to Sam and Liz Berkheiser for doing such a magnificent job. The design is beautiful and I have so much more wildlife.”
— lynn, Apalachicola
